VICTOR MARX SELECTS RETIRED MARINE COLONEL AND OPERATIONS EXECUTIVE, GEORGE MARKERT, AS RUNNING MATE

(DENVER, CO) - Republican gubernatorial nominee Victor Marx today announced that retired United States Marine Corps Colonel George Markert will join his campaign as the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of Colorado.

Marx said he selected Markert because of his character, extensive leadership experience and ability to turn ambitious goals into disciplined execution.

“I was not looking for someone who would simply agree with me or fill a position on the ticket,” Marx said. “I was looking for someone I would trust beside me when the stakes are high—someone who knows how to build teams, manage complex organizations, make difficult decisions and remain accountable for the outcome. George Markert is that leader.”

Markert served more than 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of colonel. During his career, he led large and complex organizations, managed major operations and public resources, and served in senior leadership assignments at U.S. Central Command, the 2nd Marine Logistics Group and the 4th Marine Logistics Group.

His responsibilities included helping lead organizations of approximately 8,000 personnel, coordinating operations across dozens of locations, managing major budgets and overseeing logistics, infrastructure, emergency preparedness, workforce development and organizational innovation.

Following his military retirement, Markert continued his leadership in Colorado’s private sector as Director of Operations for GeoStabilization International, where he oversaw field operations supporting infrastructure projects across North America.

“George is not joining this ticket to serve as a ceremonial lieutenant governor,” Marx said. “I chose him because Colorado needs leaders who can move from vision to execution. He understands how to establish a mission, organize the right people, manage resources responsibly, measure progress and deliver results.”

Marx said the selection reflects the campaign’s commitment to preparing for a potential administration well before Election Day.

“This campaign has always been rooted in servant leadership, but servant leadership also requires competence,” Marx said. “Colorado families deserve more than promises. They deserve an administration that is prepared to govern, prepared to solve problems and prepared to be held accountable.”

Marx and Markert share a commitment to making Colorado more affordable, restoring public safety and improving the performance and transparency of state government.

“Colorado families are working harder but paying more for housing, energy, groceries, insurance, transportation, taxes and fees,” Marx said. “State government cannot control every price, but it can stop adding unnecessary costs and start respecting the people who pay the bills. George understands that every dollar matters and that government must be able to show taxpayers what they are receiving in return.”

Markert said he accepted the nomination because he believes Marx has built a movement focused on service, courage and meaningful reform.

“I have spent my life serving alongside people who understood that the mission was greater than any individual,” Markert said. “Victor and I share that belief. Colorado families deserve a government that listens to them, respects their money and delivers measurable results. I am honored to join this campaign and help build an administration prepared to serve every part of our state.”

In 2025, Markert entered electoral politics as a Republican candidate for the United States Senate. During that campaign, he traveled Colorado, met with voters and community leaders, and developed a deeper understanding of the affordability, public-safety and government-accountability concerns facing communities throughout the state.

Markert holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Virginia Tech and four graduate degrees in business administration, military studies, national security, and strategic management and executive leadership.

“Victor has spent his life protecting people, restoring families and serving those others overlooked,” Markert said. “My career has focused on building organizations capable of accomplishing difficult missions. Our experiences are different, but they are complementary—and we are united by a commitment to serve the people of Colorado.”

Marx said the selection represents a central promise of the campaign: combining outsider leadership with the experience and discipline necessary to govern effectively.

“Colorado does not need another administration that manages decline, protects bureaucracy and asks families to keep paying more for less,” Marx said. “George and I are building a team that will challenge the status quo, protect taxpayers and deliver results. Together, we are going to get Colorado working better.”
