Campaign Finance Decision from SoS
“Friday’s recommendation is wrong, and we’re appealing it,” said Victor Marx, Republican candidate for Colorado governor.
“A $57,647 fine against a first-time campaign that reported every contribution in the open is a political penalty. The bureaucrats asked for one number, and the hearing officer went even higher,” Marx said. “We’ll make our case, and we expect to win.”
“Then there’s the timing,” Marx continued. “The recommendation arrives just as Colorado voters are about to get their ballots. Voters can judge for themselves whether that’s an accident.”
“We found our mistakes because we were transparent. We fixed them, and we’re making every donor whole. That’s accountability. It’s more than Colorado has seen from the people running this state, who have driven up costs, let crime spread and grown government while results keep falling.”
“Meanwhile, Phil Weiser faces a similar complaint at the very same Secretary of State’s office, over dozens of donations above the legal limit. His case got no hearing, no fine and no headline. All he got was a polite deadline to clean things up quietly,” Marx said. “One set of rules for Democrats and another for everyone else isn’t justice. Coloradans should expect the same treatment for every candidate, no matter their political party.”
“The establishment can keep piling on paperwork,” Marx concluded. “We’ll keep taking our message straight to Colorado voters."
